World's dirtiest man dies aged 94 months after taking his first bath in decades

Amou Haji, an Iranian man known as the “dirtiest man in the world” for not bathing for about 60 years, passed away at 94.

He died on Sunday, October 23, in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars, as reported by IRNA news agency on Tuesday, October 25.

According to a local official, Haji’s aversion to bathing stemmed from his fear of “getting sick.”

Despite his resistance, villagers eventually took him to a bathroom and compelled him to shower a few months ago, as he had avoided cleaning himself due to his strong dislike for soap and water.

Haji had chosen to live this way after facing emotional hardships in his youth, leading to his isolation from society.

In addition to his unclean habits, Haji also had unconventional preferences in food and drink, favoring rotten porcupine and drinking water from a rusty oil can.

He even had a habit of smoking animal feces in an old pipe rather than tobacco.

Having spent most of his life in Dejgah village, concerned locals had built him a simple brick shack to live in after noticing him sleeping in a hole in the ground.

His life became the subject of a short documentary film titled “The Strange Life of Amou Haji” in 2013.

Months after his forced shower, Haji passed away at the age of 94.
