BIOGRAPHY
William Atherton enrolled in dramatic arts at the Drama School of Carnegie Tech then at Carnegie-Mellon University, from which he graduated in 1969. From then on, he played in numerous plays by renowned playwrights, such as David Rabe , John Guare and Arthur Miller . In parallel with his career on the stage, the native of Orange is trying to find a place in the cinema.

William found his first role in Cops Don’t Sleep at Night in 1972. Two years later, he played Clovis in Steven Spielberg ‘s Sugarland Express , Goldie Hawn ‘s husband who escapes from prison. He continued with The Day of the Scourge , The Hindenburg Odyssey and In Search of Mister Goodbar . He also played Jime Lloyd in the mini-series Colorado , in 1978. In the 80’s, William Atherton played several supporting roles in often well-known films, such as Ghostbusters , Genius , Without Pity , Crystal Trap (he played the unbearable journalist Richard Thornburg, a character he reprises in 58 Minutes to live on two years later). On the series side, we see him in The Fifth Dimension , Arabesque and Equalizer . During the years 1990 – 2000, William established his status as a known face of American cinema (by favoring arrogant and detestable characters) thanks to his performances in The Pelican Affair , Bio-Dome , The Lords of Harlem , Mad City , Michael Kael against the World News Company , The Crow 3 , The Last Samurai , Trap in the Rising Sun or The Girl Next Door .
