Wife of Late Veteran Saxophonist Orlando Julius Marks His 80th Birthday

To celebrate the 80th posthumous birthday of Orlando Julius Ekemode, the late veteran saxophonist and culture ambassador, his widow, Latoya Aduke, is organizing a cultural troupe performance.

Activities to commemorate the birthday of the musician, who passed away on April 14, 2022, at his home in Ilesa, will begin with a Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the Orlando’s residence.

In an interview with LEADERSHIP Flavour, Aduke, an American musician, dancer, and performer, expressed the impact of her late husband’s life on her own. She said, “My life will never be the same, but I have learned to live with a broken heart. Our life together and the memories, music, and happiness that we shared all over the world bring me joy and keep me motivated to preserve his legacy and keep my broken heart beating. Love you, Aremu mi. You will always be celebrated. Love never dies. Your legend is forever,” said Aduke.

In a goodwill message to the family, Aduke and Orlando’s friend, Leila Steinberg, praised the deceased for inspiring her as an activist. She said, “He changed the world with his art, and he changed us all.”

Some of Ekemode’s timeless songs include Ololufe, I’m Going Back To My Roots, Disco Highlife, Buje Buje, Jagua Nana, Aseni, Mapani, and Selma To Soweto. Ekemode has left behind a rich legacy and valuable lessons for the younger generation to learn about humility, personal growth, and making a positive impact on others.
