Who Is Senator Bob Corker Net Worth, Spouse, Personal & Political Life

Bob Corker is an American businessman and politician. He is a member of the Republican Party and has been a junior US Senator from Tennessee since 2007. He is also the chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

The politician was once the mayor of Chattanooga and Tennessee’s commissioner of finance and administration. Let’s learn more about this US Senator.

Who is Senator Bob Corker?

He was born Robert Phillips Corker Jr. on August 24, 1952 to Jean J and Robert Phillips Corker Sr. His great-great-grandfather Stephen A. Corker was a former US Congressman. Bob spent the first ten years of his life in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he was born. At age 11, his family moved to Tennessee, where they remain to this day.

Bob Corker’s high school education was at Chattanooga High School, Hamilton County, Tennessee, where he graduated in 1970. After high school, he earned a degree in industrial management from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

His personal and political life

As a young man in his early twenties, Bob Corker traveled with a group on a missionary trip to Haiti, and he believes that trip inspired him to take an active role in church development in his hometown. In 1986, after traveling to Haiti, he helped found a non-profit organization called the Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise. From its inception to date, the NGO has assisted thousands of people in providing low-interest home loans and homeschooling to Tennesseans.

In 1994 he campaigned for the US Senate in Tennessee, but lost to Bill Frist in the Republican primary. Governor Don Sundquist later appointed him commissioner of state finance and administration. a position he held from 1995 to 1996. He was mayor of Chattanooga from 2001 to 2005.

As Mayor of Chattanooga, Bob Corker instituted a performance-based bonus system for teachers. The program, which took effect in 2002, awarded teachers and principals from the lowest performing schools in Chattanooga for improving student achievement. It achieved tremendous success 2 years after its implementation, as a study showed, among other things, that the proportion of third-graders in the country fell significantly.

During his tenure as mayor, Corker also initiated another program called ChattanoogaRESULTS. At the heart of the program was the monthly meeting with civil service administrators to assess their performance and set new targets for further improvement.

Like the performance-based bonus scheme, ChattanoogaRESULTS was also a huge hit. City data shows that between 2001 and 2004 crime fell by 26% and violent crime by 50%. This was credited to the program. After his reign as mayor, his successor, Ron Littlefield, continued the program. Corker was also the brains behind Enterprise South Industrial Park in Chattanooga. Before his tenure as mayor ended, he oversaw the $120 million riverfront renovation project, the renovation of the Creative Discovery Museum, and more.

When he finished serving as mayor of Chattanooga, Corker announced that he would run for the state’s US Senate election. He defeated Harold Ford Jr. (Democratic Representative) in the general election to become the first non-incumbent Republican elected to the US Senate in the 110th Congress.

In 2012 he sought re-election and was re-elected. He won the election with 65% against Democrat Mark E. Clayton, who received 30% of the vote. In 2017, he announced that he would not seek re-election.

Wealth (income and earnings)

Although there are conflicting numbers as to how, one thing these numbers have in common is that they all agree that Bob Corker’s net worth is more than $40 million. While some put his net worth at $40 million, others put it at $45 million and up. This makes Bob one of the richest senators in the United States.

His income comes mainly from his business chains scattered across the country and from his income as a senator.
