Lou Ferrigno is a popular American actor, fitness trainer, and former professional bodybuilder who was a one-time IFBB Mr. America winner and a two-time IFBB Mr. Universe winner. Who is Lou Ferrigno?
The American actor, fitness personnel and former bodybuilder’s birth name is Louis Jude Ferrigno. He was born on November 9, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, United States of America to Victoria Ferrigno and Matt Ferrigno. Although he is of Italian descent, Lou has American citizenship and is Caucasian. He is said to have picked up an interest in bodybuilding at an early age and attributes his passion for the sport to Hercules lead actor Steve Reeves.
He studied at St. Athanasius Grammar School and Brooklyn Technical High School, where he majored in learning metalwork and graduated in 1969.
His bodybuilding days
Lou Ferrigno started his bodybuilding career after graduating from high school, he won the IFBB Mr. America title the same year, followed by the IFBB Mr. Universe title four years later. Early in his bodybuilding career, Lou was mentored by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 1974, he took part in the Olympia competition where he placed second. The following year, despite his best efforts to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger, he placed 3rd. However, he was thrust into the limelight as his pursuit to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger was the focus of Iron a documentary in 1975.
Lou Ferrigno is also known for emerging in fourth place in the World Strongest Man competition which took place in 1977. After a long hiatus, the bodybuilder was back in the arena in early 1990 and he had competed in the M Olympia in 1992 and 1993, placing 12th and 10th respectively. The following year he entered the Master Olympia where he did his best to defeat Robbie Robinson and Boyer Coe, which would also have been the main focus of the documentary. Standing tall in 1996. Lou Ferrigno ventured to star in 1977 with The Hulk in the CBS television series The Incredible Hulk. He has also made appearances in several movies and TV series which include Battle of the Network Stars, Trauma Center, and the CBS sitcom The King of Queens. He also featured in the comedy film I Love You Dude, My Two Chads, he voiced Billy the Hero in the film Adventure Time, and was in the Avengers, Star Trek Goes On .
