Jim Furyk was born James Michael Furyk on12. May 1970 in West Chester, Pa. He was born to Linda and Mike Furyk, who worked as an assistant golfer before eventually becoming a golfer at a number of Pennsylvania golf courses. His father was responsible for teaching his son the game throughout its founding years, although the latter also had a keen interest in basketball, which he was quite good at.
He attended Manheim Township High School in Lancaster County, where he played on both the basketball and golf teams. Furyk won a state golf championship before graduating in 1988 and enrolled at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Here, Furyk was a two-time All-American when he managed to lead his school to the first and only NCAA golf title in 1992. After that win, he decided to turn pro, first playing on the Nike Tour in 1993 and winning the Nike Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic before joining the 1994 PGA Tour.

Furyk met his wife as a young professional playing in 1995 at the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament. After completing his round, he was leaving the court to play with some children as he looked at Tabitha. He reportedly made sure to keep an eye on his wife, although a reporter who happened to be her boss approached him to interview him. Realizing what was going on, the reporter introduced the future couple and they began to see each other.
The couple dated five years before Furyk pulled through all the stops to make sure his wife wouldn’t turn down his proposal. One night, during the 2000 US Open in Pebble Beach, Monterey, California, the couple went out to dinner and later decided to go for a walk on the beach.
