As part of Wolf Entertainment's Chicago franchise, Chicago P.D. is an American police procedural action drama television series developed by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead. On January 8, 2014, the series debuted on NBC as a mid-season replacement. The show follows the uniformed patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit of the Chicago Police Department's 21st District as they hunt for the perpetrators of the city's most serious crimes.
The sitcom was renewed for an eighth, ninth, and 10 seasons by NBC on February 27, 2020. On November 11, 2020, the eighth season premiered. On September 22, 2021, the ninth season premiere.

What Happened to Kim Burgess on Chicago PD?
Kim Burgess was kidnapped in the last episodes of season 8, and Roy, a criminal who operated a human trafficking organization, shot her in the finale.

Burgess was shot in the stomach twice, and he was left for dead. When Chicago PD returned for Season 9, Kim Burgess was fighting for her life while the team at Chicago Med attempted to heal the damage. By the end of the premiere, we learn that she should be fine, but that she will need time to recuperate.
Burgess, on the other hand, is ready to return to work in the second episode of Season 9, even though the kidnapping occurred only two weeks prior.

While Rob, the assailant who shot Burgess, was murdered by Voight and Upton, Burgess is unaware of this, which means she will never be able to move on from the near-fatal incident. We don't think this is the final episode.
