Weekend Snow Storm Causes Several Car Crashes | Local News

We managed to get a couple of inches of snow over the weekend, making it a challenge to get around town. Even though much of the snow has melted some of the roads are still iced over causing cars to slide and crash.

When that first snow comes in a lot of people can sometimes forget to drive a lot more cautiously whether it be in areas like the university where there's a lot of hills and small narrow streets or on long stretched highways with open spaces. One person tells us that she had to put chains on after being out of practice for a while.

Ysabella Cruz, Minden resident, says, "the other day I was driving back to Minden and close to Old US 395 I had to put on my chains but without any practice and it was like snowing, windy. It was really hard to put those on, but I was still able to make it home safe."

Cruz says that while she did not feel comfortable driving when it first snowed, she's glad that the roads have cleared up a lot since. However, she's still staying cautious of any water and ice that stills remains in the roadways. I spoke with a student who's from Michigan who shares some advice when it comes to winter driving conditions.

Connor O'Shea, senior, says, "The best advice taking on the roads safely in the snow is you just got to leave earlier. You got to leave earlier plan earlier your whole day if it's snowing and drive slower."
