Last year, Nigerian tourist Zainab Oladeinde made claims that she was robbed and almost raped while staying at Warere Beach Hotel in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The hotel management has now issued a response to these allegations.
Zainab shared her account on Twitter, stating that she had arrived in Zanzibar on April 16, 2021, for her birthday celebration on April 18. She traveled alone and alleged that during the early hours of April 18, an unidentified man attempted to rape her in her room. She also claimed that over $1000 was stolen from her. Zainab further expressed dissatisfaction with the Zanzibar authorities’ response, accusing them of not providing adequate assistance and questioning the veracity of her claims.
The hotel’s management released a statement addressing the incident, stating that they had promptly filed a report with the police when it occurred. According to the hotel, the police report indicated that Zainab’s case was a personal matter and not a result of any negligence on the part of the hotel.
Additionally, the Zanzibar Commission of Tourism issued a statement expressing regret about the incident and confirming that an investigation into the matter had been initiated.
