Walter’s parents are José María Mercado and Aida Salinas. He is half Spanish due to his Spanish ancestry. After completing high school in his hometown, Walter pursued university education and majored in psychology, pedagogy, and pharmacy. Before starting his career, he utilized his knowledge to teach others and study the human mind.

He then ventured into ballet and dance, becoming one of the most prolific dancers. He often teamed up with dancer-comedian Velda Gonzales. His screen career began with Puerto Rican telenovelas, including “Un Adiós en el Recuerdo” and “Larga Distancia”. He also established his own acting school, the Walter Actors Studio 64.

His career as an astrologer began accidentally when he filled in for a guest on a TV show hosted by Elin Ortiz.
