BIOGRAPHY
As a child, Virginie Ledoyen appeared in advertising spots, notably for the Buitoni and Air Inter brands, and in the video clip “L’Aziza” by Daniel Balavoine . At ten years old, she made her cinema debut in an Italian film entitled The Exploits of a Young Don Juan (1987), but it was Philomène Esposito who gave her her first major role in 1991 with Mima . After having played in Mouche , the unfinished film by Marcel Carné , the teenager distinguished herself in Les Marmottes (1993) by Elie Chouraqui , L’Eaufroid (1994) by Olivier Assayas and La Fille Seule (1995) by Benoît Jacquot , three performances for which she was nominated three times for the César for Most Promising Actress.
A girl from a good family in Claude Chabrol ‘s La Cérémonie , she displays her charms by playing a pop singer in Héroines (1997), singing a song in the musical Jeanne et le boy formidable (1998) and bewitching Gérard Lanvin in En plein heart (1998), the remake of In Case of Misfortune (id.). Becoming an ambassador for the cosmetics brand L’Oréal in 1999, she found herself propelled to stardom by starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the adventure film The Beach (2000) by Danny Boyle . As comfortable in film noir ( De l’amour by Jean-Francois Richet ) as in burlesque comedy ( 8 femmes by François Ozon ), she worked alongside Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani for the purposes of Bon voyage (2003) and tries his hand at fantasy in Saint-Ange (2004). Tempted by an international career ( The Backwoods , Love and Virtue ), Virginie Ledoyen often remains associated in France with the image of a romantic young woman as evidenced by her performances in La Doublure (2006), Un Kiss Please (2007) and My Friends, My Loves (2008).
