Tyler Perry is a famous actor, director, producer, author and even a songwriter who is mostly known as the creator of the TV show “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”. Tyler Perry: early life and education
Tyler Perry was born Emmitt Perry Jr on September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, LA. He was born a middle child, with two older sisters and a younger brother. Although his mother was a regular worshiper at church and often took Perry together, his father was a carpenter. Growing up, Perry suffered a lot of abuse from his father and this led to depression when he was a teenager. Things got even worse to the point that he attempted suicide at home to end his plight. However, at the age of 16, he decided to change his name to Tyler to disassociate himself from his father.
Now looking at his academics, Tyler dropped out of high school and it was mostly due to the abuse he went through in his early days. Despite that, Perry eventually returned to earn a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Later, she entered the professional world with many unsatisfying jobs.

Tyler first discovered his passion in 1991 when he was watching an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The episode involved discussions of the therapeutic nature of writing and this inspired Tyler to start writing. When he began to write for himself, he created a masterpiece in the form of an oeuvre, entitled “I know that I have changed”. The work had a lot to do with domestic abuse present in society at the time. He later rented a theater in Atlanta to stage his play, but it didn’t end up drawing the crowds he hoped for. However, a few years later, in 1998, he got a second chance and things were completely different this time.
As the play sold out for many consecutive shows, it grossed him several million dollars. This changed the perception of African-American theater and brought it into a more favorable light. After the success in his first play, he was invited to work for the play “Woman, you are loose”. Perry agreed to do it and later rewrote the play, directed it and even produced it. Again it was a huge success, earning over $5 million in 5 months. Today, Tyler has over 17 feature films, 20 plays, 7 television shows, and a New York Times bestseller to his name.
Tyler Perry: personal life
While many have been questioning Perry’s sexual orientation, suggesting he’s a gay man, that couldn’t be further from the truth. He probably came about because of the fact that he’s not married. However, Perry has been in a long-term relationship with model Gelila Bekele. The couple has been together since 2009 and they are extremely happy together.
Tyler and Gelila also gave birth to a baby boy. His son Aman was born on November 30, 2014 and has the best life he could imagine between amazing parents. Perry likes to keep her son out of the media eye. He believes that his son also needs to fight alone to be successful. After what he went through in his early years, Perry believes in helping those in need. On July 20, 2009, he funded a camp for 65 Philadelphia children to visit Walt Disney World.
