The emerging US rapper known as Big Wan has tragically been shot and killed.
Big Wan, whose real name was Dawan Turner and hailing from Milwaukee, was fatally shot on Friday morning (November 26) as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
According to the Milwaukee police, gunfire erupted at a residence located on the 3800 block of North 13th Street, where the 19-year-old musician was residing with his mother and grandmother.
It is reported that Big Wan was present in an upstairs bedroom when the tragic incident took place and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Milwaukee police have classified his death as a homicide, yet no suspects have been identified at this time.
Big Wan gained recognition in 2019 with his breakout track “Fast Lane Lifestyle,” and its accompanying music video has amassed over 400,000 views on YouTube, a remarkable achievement for an up-and-coming artist.
Hilda Alayeto, a close family friend of his mother, Rosemary Gonzalez, fondly remembered Big Wan, stating;
“He had a talent for bringing joy and laughter to others. Dawan was incredibly affectionate. He was always there to give a hug and ensure everyone’s well-being. He was like a big-hearted teddy bear.”
His manager, known as Bagzz (real name Will Norton), likened Big Wan to The Notorious B.I.G., expressing;
“He was a young talent who could captivate audiences at adult venues and energize the entire crowd. Amid the often rigid music industry, he was the one to bring relaxation. He was profoundly humble, receptive, and devoted to his craft.”
