Following a snowmobile accident, the automotive world is mourning the loss of Ken Block, renowned Top Gear star and professional rally driver, who passed away at the age of 55.
His team, Hoonigan Racing, expressed their sorrow, stating: “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”
The tragic incident took place in Utah’s Wasatch County, where the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Block was riding on a steep slope around 2pm on Monday, Jan. 2. The snowmobile he was operating overturned and landed on top of him.
According to a statement by the sheriff’s office, “He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident,” They added that he was riding with a group but was alone when the incident occurred.
Block’s final social media post was made on the morning of his passing. He had shared images of the snow-covered landscape surrounding his ranch on Instagram early that day.
The last post features several snowmobiles covered in snow, accompanied by the caption: “This is how some mornings at my ranch in Utah look this time of year – freshly coated with snow!”
Block’s rallying career commenced in 2005, earning him the title of Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. He also participated in the World Rally Championship and achieved numerous rallycross accolades at the X Games.
The American sports personality was also a co-founder of the sportswear company DC Shoes and the producer of the popular Gymkhana video series, known for showcasing his adept driving on perilous tracks and obstacle courses, amassing millions of views on YouTube.
