Fayez was raised in modern Heliopolis, in an Egyptian noble family. In 1946, he came to the US for his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. Later, he pursued postgraduate studies at Harvard Business School, graduating with a Master’s degree. He became a US citizen in 1961.
Following his graduation, he joined Anderson, Clayton, a cotton company. In the mid-1958, he founded an investment firm, Fayez Sarofim & Company, based in Houston. He currently manages stock funds for the Dreyfus family and is the 2nd largest shareholder in the energy infrastructure company Kinder Morgan, as well as co-owner of the NFL team, Houston Texans. Sarofim is considered the 3rd most influential Egyptian-American, after Steve Jobs and Paula Abdul.
In his personal life, Fayez Sarofim married his first wife Lousina Stude in 1962, with whom he had two children, Allison and Christopher, as well as an adopted child. After their divorce in 1990, he married a former employee Linda Hicks, with whom he had two more children and adopted one. Following another divorce in 1996, this time with Linda, Sarofim married Susan Krohn at the end of 2014.
Fayez Sarofim is renowned for his philanthropic and political donations, supporting various institutions such as the Houston Ballet, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hobby Centre for Performing Arts, the Houston Symphony, and the Houston Grand Opera. Additionally, he contributes to treatment and research institutions, including the University of Texas Health Science Center, the Texas Children’s Hospital, and Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center. His presidential election endorsements include support for the candidate Jeb Bush.
