The Passing of Alaba Lawson, Iyalode of Yorubaland, at the age of 72


Chief Alaba Lawson, known as the Iyalode of Yorubaland, has sadly departed at the age of 72.

Lawson, who previously served as the National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, passed away on Saturday.

A statement signed by AbdulRahman Maku, the Executive Secretary of Abeokuta Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture, confirmed her demise.

“We deeply regret to inform you of the passing of Iyalode Alaba Lawson, MFR, JP (Iyalode of Yorubaland), the past President of NACCIMA and the Matron and Chairman of ABEOCCIMA’s Board of Trustees. She passed away early this morning, on Saturday, 28th October, 2023. Details of the burial arrangements will be announced by the family. May Iyalode’s soul find eternal rest in the embrace of God Almighty,” the statement read.

Born on January 18, 1951, Lawson was a prominent Nigerian business magnate, entrepreneur, academician, and advocate for women’s empowerment.

At the time of her passing, she held the position of Iyalode of Egbaland and served as the Chairman of ABEOCCIMA’s Board of Trustees.
