Police confirm they are investigating online racist abuse of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka

Confirmation has been received from the Metropolitan Police that they are looking into a reported racist social media post directed at Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

The post, which read ‘this clown has cost us the league’, appeared following Saka’s missed penalty during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with West Ham on Sunday. The accompanying image depicted Saka in a manner resembling a monkey. The account responsible for the post has since been deactivated.

One user tweeted, ‘Let find out who this piece of s*** is and give him a real good old fashion a** whooping,’ alongside a screenshot of the original tweet.

Another user tagged the Metropolitan Police’s account, expressing their intention to report the original tweet as a hate crime.

‘This has already been reported and is currently being investigated, thank you,’ the Met replied.

In an interview with The Athletic this week, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright expressed his full support for Saka and urged everyone associated with the club to do the same.

‘He will always be our starboy no matter what,’ Wright stated. ‘He has my unequivocal support & I would expect everyone around Arsenal to do the same.

‘Vocal support matters. I want him to know we will always rally around him. Watch our fans on Friday night.

‘He’s going to feel the love, I can tell you that. Despite what he has been through he has continued to take responsibility. He can do so again. He has greatness. Just go again, Bukayo.’
