Texas school shooter's grandpa says they had 'no idea' he bought two AR-15s, reveals he shot grandma in the head a week after they celebrated his 18th birthday

The family of the Texas school shooter was unaware that he had legally purchased two AR-15s just days before the tragic incident. Salvador Ramos, 18, was shot dead by police after killing 19 fourth graders and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. He first shot his grandmother at home, then drove to the school and went on a shooting spree before being killed by a Border Patrol agent. The agent, wounded in the incident, was able to eliminate the gunman.

Ramos had purchased the firearms and ammunition at a store near his house shortly after celebrating his 18th birthday, which his grandmother had taken him to Applebee’s for. His grandfather, Rolando Reyes, disclosed that neither he nor his wife were aware of their grandson’s plans to acquire the weapons. Rolando expressed that he would have reported it if he had known, especially since he has a past felony conviction that prohibits him from being in a home with firearms. Ramos’s grandmother, despite being shot in the head, survived and is currently in the hospital.

Rolando described his grandson as quiet, mentioning that the troubled teen didn’t live with his mother due to issues they had. He also shared that he was out of the house when the shooting occurred and only learned about it when a neighbor called him to inform him about his wife being shot. It was later revealed that Ramos had messaged a friend about looking “very different now” and had reached out to a woman in Los Angeles, tagging her in a photo of the guns.
