BIOGRAPHY
Tessa Thompson was born in 1983 to a father of Afro-Panamanian descent (singer/songwriter Mark Anthony Thompson) and a mother of Mexican and European descent. She discovered theater in high school and developed a passion for comedy. The young woman still went to the University of Santa Monica where she studied anthropology.
The actress made her stage debut in 2002 in Shakespeare’s plays The Tempest and Romeo & Juliet. She was quickly spotted by television and landed her first role in 2005 in the small window in the detective series Cold Case . The actress, then in her twenties, was spotted by an agent while she was walking on Hollywood Boulevard. The following year, she stood out in the popular teen series Veronica Mars by lending her features to Jackie Cook, a friend of the heroine played by Kristen Bell . She also made her film debut in Terror on the Line , a thriller by Simon West .
The beautiful Tessa then quietly climbed the ladder by appearing in successful series like Life , Private Practice , Grey’s Anatomy , 666 Park Avenue , Heroes and Copper . The actress revealed herself in 2014 with Dear White People by Justin Simien . The film, which received much attention at the Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of the lives of four black students in one of the most prestigious American faculties; it’s a satirical comedy about being black in a white world. She continued in the “militant” film with Selma the following year, a biopic of the famous Martin Luther King . Tessa slips into the shoes of Diane Nash, a peace activist for African-American civil rights.
These various unanimously acclaimed performances allowed the actress to obtain a prestigious supporting role, that of Bianca, girlfriend of Adonis Johnson ( Michael B. Jordan ) in Creed – The Legacy of Rocky Balboa , directed by Ryan Coogler . The young woman stars opposite Chris Hemsworth in the superhero blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok , the third opus in the adventures of the Nordic hammer god. She plays Valkyrie, a character she reprises in Avengers: Endgame (2018) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Fond of franchises, she once again plays the great love of boxer Michael B. Jordan in Creed 2 (2019) and 3 (2022).
Tessa Thompson also co-stars in Annihilation , with Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac , Alex Garland ‘s new sci-fi project , and reunites with Hemsworth for Men in Black: International , a reboot of the saga initiated by Barry Sonnenfeld in 1997. On the series side, she found a regular role in Westworld , that of the powerful woman Charlotte Hale, and devoted herself to dubbing in Lady and the Tramp .
