The recent incident of a Florida high school teacher being arrested and charged for firing at his wife and brother-in-law during a wedding in Tennessee has shocked many. The 29-year-old Cody Wiggins reportedly used a semi-automatic handgun to carry out the shooting at the Marriott of Cool Spring around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, as confirmed by the Franklin Police Department.
After the shooting, Wiggins attempted to flee the scene on foot but was swiftly apprehended in a nearby subdivision. According to the police, the suspect was the husband and brother-in-law of the victims, and all of them had been in Franklin to attend a wedding. Both victims were transported to the Vanderbilt Hospital, and their current conditions remain unknown.
As a consequence, Wiggins is facing several charges, including two counts of attempted homicide, domestic assault, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. He is currently being detained in Williamson County Jail on a $3.5 million bond. The authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
Prior to this incident, Wiggins worked as an English teacher at West Florida High School in Pensacola. Following his arrest, the Escambia Schools Superintendent, Keith Leonard, stated that in compliance with Florida law and the contractual provisions of the Escambia County School District, the employee will be immediately suspended. Leonard also mentioned their commitment to cooperating with law enforcement as the case progresses.
