She was known for being the world's tallest professional female basketball player, standing 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m) tall. She was married to David Twigg and they had two sons, David and Alex. David was born in 2008, and Alex was born in 2010. Dydek, who was pregnant with her third child then had gone through a heart arrest and was placed in a medically induced coma in a Brisbane hospital on May 19, 2011. She was a coach with the Northside Wizards of the Queensland Basketball League at the time. Dydek passed out at her Brisbane home and was sent to the hospital by ambulance. She never regained consciousness and died on May 27, 2011, eight days later.
