Former NFL running back Ronnie Hillman, who was a Super Bowl winner, has passed away at the age of 31 after receiving hospice care for a rare form of kidney cancer earlier this week. His family confirmed the tragic news on Thursday, December 22.
Hillman’s family made the announcement of his passing, urging for privacy as they prepare to lay him to rest. The former Denver Broncos running back had been battling renal medullary carcinoma, a rare type of kidney cancer, since August, and sadly, the treatment was unsuccessful.
The Denver Broncos also expressed their sadness at the loss, acknowledging Hillman’s significant contributions to the team and extending their condolences to his family during this difficult time. Hillman was drafted by the Broncos in 2012 and played a vital role in their success, including their Super Bowl 50 victory in 2016.
Hillman, a Southern California native and former San Diego State Aztec, was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and went on to make impactful contributions to the Broncos before also playing for the Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers. Unfortunately, he was released by the Dallas Cowboys during training camp in 2017.
