The basketball star was born to Malcolm Dinwiddie and Stephanie Dinwiddie on April 6, 1993. He was raised in Los Angeles, California alongside his brother Taylor. Dinwiddie attended William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills and also graduated from the University of Colorado.

Beginning his basketball career at Taft High,Spencer was one of the standout players of his peers. At the end of his high school career, he received a three-star rating from Rivals.com. From 2011 to 2014 he played college basketball with the Colorado Buffaloes. While there, he led the Buffaloes to the finals of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament twice in a row. He also helped the team win the 2012 Charleston Classic trophy. Dinwiddie had to forego his senior year to commit to the 2014 NBA draft.

Drafted by the Detroit Pistons, Dinwiddie has played in both the NBA G League and NBA Pro League. He split his 2014-16 playing time between Detroit Pistons and their G League affiliate Grand Rapids Drive. Spencer Dinwiddie also played for the G League Windy City Bulls before joining the Brooklyn Nets in 2016. He won the NBA All-Star Weekend in February 2018 and was in top form for the Nets. Find out more about him in these fun facts.

Spencer attended Willam Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills. While there, he distinguished himself as one of the top standout athletes in school history since Jordan Farmar. He was active in almost every sport, playing the role of a point guard for the school’s basketball team.

Dinwiddie received awards for his efforts, earning him California Mr. Basketball and John R. Wooden winning California High School Players of the Year. At this level, Spencer has proven to be a guy with great ball skills and a lot of potential.

2. Spencer suffered a career-threatening ACL injury during his college career

At the end of his high school career, SpencerDinwiddie enrolled at the University of Colorado, where he continued to play collegiate-level basketball. Spencer played for the Colorado basketball team and had an impressive freshman season, averaging 10.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

He stepped up his game in his sophomore year, focused on becoming his team’s top guard. However, his junior season was cut short due to an injury he sustained. He had a career-threatening anterior cruciate ligament injury that caused him to be out of action for most of his junior year.

3. He chronicled his 2017 breakout season

After his stint with Detriot Pistons, no one would have expected Spencer to be great at his game. He’d gotten used to being passed over and never had a good season. Interestingly, Spencer Dinwiddie started the season on the Brooklyn Nets bench during the 2017-18 regular season. After the absences of D’Angelo Russell and Jeremy Lin, Spencer rebounded and recorded his breakout season.

After a few games off the bench, Spencer became a steady starter for the Nets. He started out averaging 4.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 17 points every 36 minutes and ended the season averaging 12 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. His brilliant performances have kept the networks highly competitive in the league.

4. Spencer Dinwiddie won the 2018 NBA Skills Challenge

After his breakout season in 2017, SpencerDinwiddie attended the NBA All-Star Weekend held in February 2018. The fast-rising star made a lasting impression after becoming the winner of the Skills Challenge trophy. He was in fact the least known entrant in the competition, which was attended by other stars such as Andre Drummond, Al Horford, Lou Williams and Jamal Murray. Spencer defeated Chicago Bulls star Lauri Markkanen to win the Skills Challenge trophy.
