An encounter with bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State led to the tragic death of six traders on Friday.
The traders were en route from Maidabino village to the weekly market situated at Yantumaki.
Both villages fall under Danmusa Local Government Area.
Reportedly, the traders frequently travel in convoys due to the security situation in the locality.
According to residents, the convoy of vehicles transporting the traders encountered the bandits shortly before reaching Yantumaki.
Locals disclosed that the bandits emerged suddenly from a forest and initiated gunfire at the vehicles.
An anonymous resident shared, “It was early morning, and the bandits appeared from a forest, blocking the highway as the traders neared Yantumaki.”
“The bandits opened fire on the convoy of vehicles. By the time security forces, including troops and the police, arrived at the scene, six traders had already lost their lives.
“We are unsure if the bandits kidnapped any of the traders.”
When reached for comment, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the incident but stated that he did not have specific details.
“The incident occurred, but I am currently without details. You can contact me later for more information,” he responded.
