Regrettably, the Nigerian movie industry has suffered another loss with the passing of veteran actor Yemi Adeyemi, also known as ‘Suara’.
This talented actor, who starred alongside Sola Sobowale in the popular TV series Super Story, sadly departed on Sunday, September 24th.
His grieving family shared the heartbreaking news in a statement signed by his son, Adetoun Adeyemi, on Monday, appealing to the public for privacy during this time of mourning.
While the family did not disclose the cause of his death, they promised to provide further details about his burial arrangements.
Adedotun Adeyemi read: “With heavy hearts and full submission to God, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Oluyemi Lawrence Adeyemi (Suara), who departed to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
We find solace knowing that he has found eternal rest. We kindly request that the family be given privacy during this grieving period. Further information regarding the burial will be communicated soon.”
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, a close friend of the late actor and a renowned movie critic and writer, also confirmed this tragic news.
“I have received reliable information that veteran actor Chief Yemi Adeyemi, aka Suara, has passed away.
“Chief Adeyemi gained prominence through his role as Suara in the popular series ‘Oh Father, Oh Daughter,’ part of the widely acclaimed Super Story productions by Wale Adenuga Productions.
Baba Suara, as he was affectionately called by some of his younger colleagues, reportedly played his final act this Sunday. Farewell, Baba Suara. You will be greatly missed. Rest well, Sir. Farewell…” wrote Husseini.
Yemi Adeyemi was a prominent actor in Wale Adenuga’s Super Story series, particularly in the episode ‘Oh Father! Oh Daughter!, where he portrayed a polygamist with Bukky Wright as his first wife and Sola Sobowale as his second wife.
This sad news follows the recent passing of actor and filmmaker Charles Granville, whose demise was announced a few days ago on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Charles’s friend, Umanu Elijah, shared the news of his passing and revealed that Charles had succumbed to a prolonged illness after a long battle.
Charles was one of the key stars of the popular Africa Magic series Tinsel.
Last week, Nollywood also mourned the loss of veteran actor Akeem Alamutu, who passed away in the early hours of September 19, 2023.
The news of his passing was relayed by actor Odunlade Adekola on his social media platform, where he announced the demise of the Yoruba film legend.
Odunlade urged everyone to live humbly and remember that all things eventually become part of history.
Paying their respects, stars like Funke Akindele, Shaffy Bello, Jaiye Kuti, Hilda Dokubo, Muyiwa Ademola, and many more honored his memory.
