The internet has been stirred up by images of college students in the Philippines donning “anti-cheating hats” during their exams.
The trendsetter is a group of engineering students from Albay, Bicol. Their innovative approach to prevent cheating during exams has gone viral on social media.
The students exhibited ingenuity by crafting their own “anti-cheating” hats using recycled materials such as cardboard and egg boxes.
Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, a professor of mechanical engineering at Bicol University College of Engineering, expressed the effectiveness of the strategy.
She shared that initially, she requested students to fashion a “simple” design using paper.
Prof Mandane-Ortiz commended her students’ resourcefulness, noting that they were able to create sophisticated headgear in a matter of “just five minutes” using miscellaneous items they found laying around.
Other students opted for hats, helmets, or Halloween masks to meet the requirement.
According to the professor, all students completed their exams ahead of time, and there were no reported incidents of cheating this year.
