The Pennsylvania police bulletin mistakenly named rapper Lil Uzi Vert as a puppy thief. The rapper’s photo appeared on the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department’s Facebook post, alerting the public about a puppy stolen from a pet store. However, after realizing their mistake, the police replaced the photo with that of the actual suspect, a man with face tattoos accused of taking a puppy from Brookside Pups.
The incorrect information featuring Lil Uzi Vert’s photo circulated online for about 30 minutes, sparking a flurry of comments about the Philly artist. Brookside Pups confirmed that the alleged puppy thief had Lil Uzi Vert’s face as his profile picture on social media.
Blaming the pet store for the mix-up, the police took down the photo after acknowledging that the face tattoos on Lil Uzi Vert did not match those of the suspect. Responding to the incident, Roc Nation, in a statement, expressed concern over the potential impact on Uzi’s career and highlighted the grave error as an example of how Black men can be wrongfully charged and arrested by police departments across the country.
The statement emphasized Uzi’s love for animals and the hope for the safe and swift rescue of the puppy.
