Prosecutors: Nurse Accused of Smuggling Cocaine and Weed Into Jail for Rapper, Gunna

Allegations have surfaced that American rapper, Gunna, attempted to have drugs smuggled to him while in custody.

The artist, who has been denied release on bond once more, allegedly sought the assistance of a nurse to facilitate the drug smuggling.

During a bond hearing on Thursday, July 7, prosecutors cited this purported incident as one of the grounds for keeping him in jail. According to prosecutors, the nurse was apprehended attempting to smuggle “a bag full of marijuana and cocaine” into the Fulton County Jail on May 14.

When confronted by a deputy about the alleged drugs, the nurse purportedly dropped the package and fled. Prosecutors asserted that some of the drugs were intended for Gunna.

Gunna, who appeared in court virtually, requested release on an “extreme bond that would include house arrest and recorded phone lines.”

However, a judge expressed concerns that Gunna, identified as Sergio Kitchens, might intimidate or threaten witnesses if released prior to trial. As a result, he has been ordered to remain in jail until his trial commences in January 2023.

During the hearing, prosecutors alleged that some of the drugs were intended for Gunna—a claim disputed by his attorney.

When discussing the reaction of Gunna’s parents to the judge’s decision to deny their son’s bond request, attorney Steve Sadow said, “All they’re looking for is their son to get a fair shake, and they don’t think that’s happening so far.”

The judge cited concerns about the Atlanta rapper, also known as Sergio Kitchens, potentially intimidating or threatening witnesses if released before trial.

Sadow asserted to Channel 2′s Michael Seiden, “None of the allegations made today, these so-called new allegations, are accurate.”

Gunna is among 28 defendants indicted in a broad criminal gang indictment that also implicates fellow rapper, Young Thug, as the leader of Young Slime Life (YSL). Gunna surrendered on May 11 and was charged with Conspiracy to violate a RICO Act.
