Prince Amukamara as a sports student
During his days at Apollo High School, he was active in so many sports. He played six games in the 2006 season and recorded 2,106 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns as a running back while recording 95 tackles and two interceptions as a defensive back.
That year, Scout.com named him to the Arizona All-State team. He was listed as a three star recruit by Rivals.com and selected as the 11th best prospect in all of Arizona. With an excellent high school record, he received many offers from various schools including Colorado, Nebraska, Fresno, Nevada, Oregon, UNLV, and UTEP.
After much deliberation, Prince decided to enlist at the University of Nebraska. As a freshman, he finished 8 games with four tackles. The following season he played brilliantly, making 34 tackles in all 13 games.
As a junior, he played as a starter at cornerback for the team and rounded out the 2009 season with 5 interceptions, 11 pass breakups, 64 tackles and 2 sacks while first-team All-big 12 picks. He recorded 59 tackles and one sack as a senior and was named an All-American and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.Balancing his sports life and his teaching, Prince was among the brightest in his class. NFL career
Prince was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft 19th overall. He sealed the deal with the Giants on a four-year, $8.18 million contract and began his regular season in one game against the Philadelphia Eagles, finishing the game with five solo tackles, two pass deflections and one pass intercepted .
In a game against the Dallas Cowboys, he recorded 4 solo tackles that result in a 37-34 win. At the end of his rookie season, Prince recorded 14 combined tackles, 3 pass deflections and one interception in 7 games.
The cornerback excelled during his postseason, recording two combined tackles in a win over the Atlanta Falcons. His team won all season and later became the Super Bowl XLVI champion.
Prince’s contract with the Giants expired in 2015, and in March 2016 he signed a one-year, $5.5 million renewal contract, including a $3 million guaranteed contract and a $1.5 million contract signing bonus with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started the season with the team in a game against the Packers, recording 2 combined interceptions along with a tackle and pass deflection. The soccer player couldn’t play for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury.
The following year, Prince signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears worth $7 million, including a $3.5 million bonus. He missed his preseason with the team as a result of an ankle injury. He resumed a game against the Minnesota Vikings sometime in October and recorded 4 solo tackles. The Chicago Bears renewed the cornerback on a three-year, $27 million contract in March 2018.
