Seeger became involved in activism in the mid-‘30s, supporting the Republican forces in the Spanish Civil War and later joining the Communist party. In the early ‘40s, he established two bands: Almanac Singers and The Weavers. However, in the late ‘50s, The Weavers’ music was banned from several radio stations. Seeger continued to record hits and create anti-war songs such as ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone’ and ‘Turn! Turn! Turn!’ during the ‘60s. He also remained associated with the Civil Rights Movement.

Personal Life and Legacy

Pete Seeger married Toshi-Aline Ōta in 1943, and the couple had four children. Toshi passed away in 2013, and Pete Seeger followed on 27th January 2014 in New York City.
