Off-Duty Reno Police Officer Saves 17-Year-Old Girl's Life After Car Pins Her Against Building |

An off-duty Reno police officer saved a 17-year-old girl's life Sunday after a car pinned her against a building in Graeagle.

California Highway Patrol says Frank Thompson was parked in the Graeagle Frostee parking lot when he revved his engine and tried to back out of the parking space. The Thompson's tires were spinning as he tried to back out, but he ended up pinning the 17-year-old girl from Carson City between his rear bumper and the building.

CHP says an off-duty Reno Police officer opened the car door and placed the car in neutral before pushing the car off of the girl. Officials say the girl had sustained a major injury on her leg.

The officer says he retrieved a tourniquet from his car and his wife and sister, both nurses, were able to provide medical assistance to the girl before she was taken to Reno by CareFlight.

Officials say Thompson was arrested for reckless driving causing great bodily harm.

The investigation is still ongoing and CHP asks anyone with information to call the Quincy-CHP Office at 530-283-1100.
