Odegaard explains why he took penalty against Palace instead of Saka in the EPL

Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, the team captain, has provided an explanation for why he took the crucial penalty against Crystal Palace instead of Bukayo Saka.

Saka was the regular penalty taker for the Gunners last season, but after missing against West Ham during a Premier League match, their title hopes dwindled.

In the recent match against Palace, with the scores level at 0-0, Eddie Nketiah was fouled by goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the penalty area.

While Saka initially grabbed the ball, it was ultimately Odegaard who took charge, confidently placing the penalty and scoring the goal that turned out to be the winner.

According to the UK Metro, Odegaard said, “We have been practicing penalties a lot during pre-season and I have successfully converted all of mine.

So, I simply asked Bukayo Saka and he entrusted me with the penalty. I must thank him for that,” Odegaard added.
