The occurrence of a minor fire outbreak at its refinery in Warri Delta State has been confirmed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
In a statement released on Friday, the company attributed the outbreak to ongoing welding activity at the top of the cooling tower.
At approximately 15:02hrs, a minor fire incident took place at the cooling tower of Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC), the company stated.
The fire, caused by ongoing welding at the top of the cooling tower, will not impact the refinery rehabilitation project delivery schedule, according to the company.
NNPC Limited’s safety officers at the refinery promptly responded and extinguished the fire by 15:30hrs, restoring normalcy.
NNPC also affirmed its commitment to upholding the highest safety standards in all its business operations.
