NIMC’s Efforts to Enhance NIN Enrollment


The National Identity Management Commission has given the green light for the deployment of additional enrollment systems as part of its strategy to bolster National Identification Number registration in the nation.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission has installed these supplementary enrollment devices across all states, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and overall effectiveness, as emphasized by its Director General/ Chief Executive Officer, Abisoye Odusote-Coker.

The Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, revealed that these systems have been put into operation, resulting in reduced applicant waiting times and an increase in the number of applicants attended to daily.

The statement also disclosed that monitoring and evaluation teams have been dispatched to various centers nationwide to oversee enrollment and modification exercises.

In addition, the statement emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of extortion and unethical practices. It further highlighted the DG’s directive to deal with any staff found guilty of extortion in accordance with the constitution and prevailing Public Service Rules.

Furthermore, the statement provided official channels through which extorted applicants can report such incidents, including a phone line (08155015388; 07002255646) and email addresses ([email protected]; [email protected]).

In recent times, the average monthly NIN enrollment has experienced a slowdown. In 2023, 104.16 million individuals obtained NINs, representing a 10.77% increase from the 94.03 million recorded in 2022. The actual number of Nigerians registered for NIN in 2023 was 10.13 million, translating to a monthly average of 844,167.

These figures fell significantly short of the Federal Government’s target of 2.5 million monthly registrations.

Recently, NIMC unveiled plans to reduce waiting times at its enrollment centers nationwide. In a presentation of new enrollment devices by the Korea International Cooperation Agency Nigeria Office, the DG, Coker-Odusote, highlighted the commission’s efforts to equip its field offices by exploring various measures.
