Senate President Ahmad Lawan has addressed the recent suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, expressing the need for an amicable resolution between the country and the social media platform. Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on June 11 to commemorate the second anniversary of the 9th assembly, Lawan emphasized the mutual dependency of Nigeria and Twitter, stating, “Our belief is that Nigeria needs Twitter just as Twitter needs Nigeria. Our expectation is that we will be able to resolve this issue. But beyond that, I am optimistic and I believe that all of us would have learned our lessons.”
The suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria was announced by the Federal government on June 4 following the deletion of a tweet by President Buhari that referenced the Civil war.
