BIOGRAPHY
Son of two cinema legends, John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands , Nick Cassavetes sees himself naturally predestined for an artistic career. A student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he began as an actor.

After a modest start to his career, which mainly included B series intended for the video market, he enjoyed success when John Woo gave him one of the secondary roles in Volte-face (1996).

The same year, he directed his first feature film, Unhooks the Stars , a story of friendship between a widow ( Gena Rowlands ) and a child, also starring Gérard Depardieu and Marisa Tomei . If he still appears in a few films, notably Intrusion , it is behind the camera that everything is now happening for Nick Cassavetes. In 1997, She’s So Lovely , his second film, based on a script by his father, brought him recognition. This tragic love story brings together John Travolta , Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn , and earned the latter the Best Actor Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Gradually emancipating himself from his father’s influence, Nick Cassavetes seems to specialize in melodrama. In 2002, John Q , with Denzel Washington , narrates the fight of a father to save his son awaiting a heart transplant, while in Never Forget with Ryan Gosling , a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease relives, thanks to her diary, the thwarted love story she experienced fifty years earlier.

In 2007, the director changed style with Alpha Dog , a drama based on a true story led by Emile Hirsch , Justin Timberlake and Sharon Stone . Nick Cassavetes’ fifth film follows the true story of Johnny Truelove, aka Jesse James Hollywood, who becomes, at the age of 19, the youngest person wanted by the FBI.

As he had addressed seven years earlier in John Q , Nick Cassavetes again deals with a child’s illness in My Life for Yours (2009). Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric play a couple put in the dock by their own daughter, convinced that she was designed to be genetically compatible with their other daughter, then suffering from cancer.

For his seventh feature film, the filmmaker once again casts his mother,, in Yellow (2012), a physical love story between a brother and a sister. In 2014, he continued his spicy portraits of women in Triple Alliance , a revenge combined with the feminine plural where he finds Cameron Diaz , alongside Leslie Mann , who want the skin of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau , a Don Juan who led them by the end of the nose.
