NAFDAC Introduces New App for Approved Medications

An online app containing a complete database of all the medications registered by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been launched.

The app, called “Greenbook,” is accessible through various web platforms.

Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, unveiled the app during a launch event at the NAFDAC office in the Isolo area of Lagos State on Wednesday.

Adeyeye stated, “It is a repository of NAFDAC-registered drugs. This momentous occasion symbolizes a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering quality, efficacious, and easily verifiable products to the market.”

“Transparency is a core value for us. It reflects our shared commitment to establishing a robust framework for pharmaceutical oversight and ensuring that Nigerians have access to safe and effective medicines.

May it serve as a beacon of progress, guiding us towards a future where health care is characterized by transparency, accountability, and, most importantly, the well-being of our citizens.”

Dr. Dunoi Afam, the Deputy Director of E-Registration and Data Management at NAFDAC, also spoke about the app’s objective, which aims to provide information on specific drugs to the general public.

He explained, “The Green Book app is being launched to assist patients, medical practitioners, and health providers in verifying the status of any medicine, whether purchased or intended to be purchased. This allows you to confirm the registration status of a product.

“Once you have accessed this app on your phone, web, or your laptops or computer systems, you will be able to check and confirm. And with this, you can even see whether a product is actually a fake product or an original product registered by NAFDAC.”

Khaled Musa, the Deputy of the Food and Drug Information Centre at NAFDAC, also emphasized that “it’s an innovation that puts the power of information in the hands of the people. You can access the app from the comfort of your home.”
