Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mayme Edna, a teacher, and Morgan Freeman Sr., a hairdresser. His parents had three other children older than him and were African American. DNA analysis revealed that some of his ancestors may have originated from Niger, a country in West Africa. At a very young age, Morgan was sent to live with his maternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. He attended Broad Street High School Mississippi, graduating in 1955.
Freeman spent most of his early years not only in Mississippi, but also in Gary, Indiana; Chicago and Illinois.

Career
Freeman’s acting career started quite early, that’s because he always had a love for the arts. He was active in his school’s drama team. At age 12, young Morgan won a statewide acting competition. But after high school, he joined the US Air Force, hoping to become a fighter pilot. When that didn’t happen, he left the force and moved to Los Angeles, where he enrolled in an acting and dance class.
In the mid-1960s, he joined a musical theater group – Opera Ring. Her first debut was in the play – The Royal Hunt for the Sun. In 1967, Freeman made his first off-Broadway appearance in the play The Negro Lovers – This spawned his Broadway debut Hello Dolly in 1968.

Freeman has been married and divorced twice. His first marriage, which only lasted two years, was to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. After his marriage failed, Freeman was single for five years before tying the knot again in 1984 and this time to Myrna Colley-Lee. They were married for more than two decades before officially announcing he was quitting in 2010. Prior to his marriage to Adair Bradshaw, Freeman already had two sons from a previous relationship.
He adopted Bradshaw’s daughter after their marriage and they also had a child together. After her divorce from Bradshaw, Freeman and Colley-Lee adopted E’dena Hines, her step-granddaughter from her first marriage, who raised her together.
