The incident at Dallas Love Field airport on Monday, July 25, where a woman of Nigerian descent opened fire, has been captured in new dramatic footage. Passengers at the airport were seen taking cover and hiding as the woman shot several rounds from a handgun. Airport security took immediate action, evacuating passengers while engaging the woman.
Videos shared on Twitter showed a police officer approaching the suspect with his gun drawn. In the footage, authorities can be heard instructing people to stay down and not move. The woman was confronted and injured by a police officer shortly after opening fire. She was then taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital and remains there, as per police statements.
Thankfully, no one was killed or injured apart from the suspect. The motivation behind the woman’s actions is not yet known. Chief of Police Eddie Garcia revealed that the woman, identified as Portia Odufuwa, had gone into a restroom at the airport before emerging with a gun and firing shots at the ceiling.
It was reported that Odufuwa, who has Nigerian ancestry, had a prior run-in with the authorities after being arrested for bank robbery in Wylie, Texas, in 2019. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at the airport in response to the incident.
The video capturing the moment of the shooting was widely shared on social media, showing the intense moments before the woman was shot and wounded by Dallas police officers.
