The bail earlier given to two defendants, Hadiza Mohammad and Usman Alhaji Umaru, has been revoked by the presiding chief magistrate of Minna Court 1, Hajiya Fati Umar Hassan. This decision was made due to alleged inconsistencies in the Police First Information Report (FIR).
The two defendants were found in possession of a Tecno mobile phone that was forcefully taken from Abubakar Mohammadu, who had been sent to pay ransom to kidnappers in Wushishi, Wushishi Local Government Area. The kidnappers murdered Mohammadu and other victims, after collecting a ransom of N2 million.
Initially, the defendants were charged with three counts by the police, but culpable homicide was not included in the charges in the FIR. Upon discovering this, the court decided to revoke the bail granted to the defendants.
In light of this development, the magistrate ordered the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to conduct a discreet investigation into the case and to re-arraign the defendants. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the content of the First Information Report citing numerous inconsistencies, and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.
