The actress was born on June 23, 1980 into a Jewish family in New Jersey. She has a brother named Ben Rauch who she grew up with. She showed her potential as a future actor from an early age, but as the daughter of Jewish parents, formal education was more important. For her education, Melissa attended Marlboro High School in her hometown, New Jersey. After graduating from high school, she was confident in her talent and passion for acting and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
