Mason Greenwood expressed his delight at joining Getafe as he was presented in front of the home fans for the first time after his loan move from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old England international made the transfer to Spain on deadline day following the announcement that he would continue his career away from Old Trafford.
Initially suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 over allegations made by his partner Harriet Robson, Greenwood was later cleared as the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the case, and his partner withdrew the charges.
Having not played for Manchester United since January 2022 due to the initial investigation into the allegations, Greenwood had the opportunity to train in front of Getafe fans during an open training session on Tuesday before being presented alongside new signings Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez. His partner, now the mother of his child, was there to support him.
Greenwood was warmly received by Getafe fans as he entered the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, waving back to the cheers and kicking a signed ball into the stand.
Expressing his happiness, Greenwood said, “I am very happy to be here. I have been training for four or five months, getting up to speed and feeling quite good training with my team-mates.”
“We take it one game at a time, and the next home game is coming in a few weeks. We will try to win and do our best,” he added.
He is expected to make his debut after the international break when Getafe faces Osasuna on September 17.
