Mark Hall faced several challenges in his childhood as he grappled with dyslexia and attention deficit disorder during his elementary school years. He commenced his church work as a youth pastor at the First Baptist Church in Samson, Alabama. Additionally, while studying music at the Baptist College of Florida, he also served in other churches.
After completing his education, Mark relocated to Loganville, Georgia to serve as the Minister of Music and Students at Center Hill Baptist Church. In each church he worked at, he initiated a youth band as a means of engaging students with music. Later on, Hall served at the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, Florida. In 1999, he established the band called Casting Crowns, initially as a student worship band. The other founding members at the time were Juan DeVevo (guitar), Hector Cervantes (guitar), Melodee DeVevo (vocals and violin), and Darren Hughes (production manager).
Two years later, Hall and Casting Crowns relocated to McDonough, Georgia to work at the Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church. During this time, Chris Huffman (bass guitar), and Megan Garrett (keyboard, vocals, accordion) joined the band. In 2002, Andy Williams also joined, completing the lineup of Casting Crowns. Their self-titled album, released in 2003, achieved double platinum status, with over two million copies sold in the US. It reached No. 59 on the Billboard 200, No. 2 on Billboard Christian Albums, and topped the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Followed by another platinum release, “Lifesong”, in 2005, which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, and topped the Billboard Christian Albums chart too. The album also won the Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, and numerous other accolades.
In 2007, the band recorded their third studio album, “The Altar and the Door”, which achieved platinum status. By the end of the 2000s, they released two more albums: “Peace on Earth” (2008) and “Until the Whole World Hears” (2009), with the latter certified platinum with over a million sales in America, hence further contributing to Hall’s net worth.
In 2011, the band recorded “Come to the Well”, and in 2014, they released “Thrive”. Most recently, they released “The Very Next Thing” (2016).
