At Lugbe, Abuja, a Grade 1 Area Court has sentenced 34-year-old Safijany Mohammed to 18 months in a correctional centre for the theft of a vehicle. The judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, convicted the defendant after he pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, attempt to steal, and stealing charges brought against him.
Although Mohammed did not provide his address, Kagarko granted him the option of paying a N50,000 fine in place of serving the prison term.
Before the court ruling, the prosecutor, Mr. Stephen Osho, informed the court that Mohammed had trespassed into the workshop of Ismailia Abbas and stolen a vehicle, which belonged to one of Abbas’s customers. Osho revealed that following his arrest, the convict confessed to stealing vehicle parts valued at N130,000.
The prosecutor indicated that the offenses committed by the convict were in violation of Section 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.
