The ownership of the 20 buses donated to the Labour Party (LP) by former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, has been at the center of controversy. The Edo State chapter of the LP has clarified that the buses were indeed donated to the party by Akpata and are now the property of the party.
There were allegations that Akpata registered the vehicles in his name and a statement questioning the true ownership of the buses went viral. However, the Olumide Akpata Campaign Organisation refuted these claims and stated that the buses were intended for the party, dismissing the allegations as baseless and disconnected from reality.
The state chairman of LP, Kelly Ogbaloi, confirmed that the vehicles were donated to the party by Akpata and emphasized that they now belong to the LP, despite any initial registrations or allegations to the contrary. Meanwhile, the Director General of OACO, Toju David, described the allegations as “poorly conceived and incoherent commentary” and asserted that all 21 vehicles legally belong to the Labour Party, Edo State.
The statement from OACO further emphasized Akpata’s contributions to the party, including significant pledges and donations towards party operations and infrastructure. It urged other aspirants to collaborate with Akpata in strengthening the party instead of trying to undermine his efforts.
