Pirates of the Caribbean star, Sergio Calderón dies at 77

Sergio Calderón, a renowned Mexican actor, has passed away at the age of 77 in Los Angeles. He was well-known for his appearances in popular films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Men In Black.

His family disclosed that Calderón died from natural causes in a Los Angeles hospital on Wednesday, May 31.

Calderón had an illustrious career spanning over six decades and appeared in more than 40 Hollywood films. One of his most famous roles was as Captain Vallenueva alongside Johnny Depp in the 2007 movie Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End. Additionally, he portrayed the ‘head on a stick’ in the 1997 film, Men in Black.

Just before his passing, Calderón confessed his affection for playing villainous characters. He expressed his satisfaction in being able to convince people with his performances, even if it meant being despised by them.

Calderón was born in a small tropical village in Mexico and later moved to Mexico City at the age of 10. It was in Mexico City where he developed a passion for performing after participating in a poetry reading. His acting career took off in 1970 when he featured in The Bridge in the Jungle, a film shot in Mexico. He subsequently relocated to Los Angeles nine years later after receiving his Screen Actors Guild card for his role in the comedy, The In-Laws.
