Following the sentencing of actor Danny Masterson to 30 years to life in prison for r@ping two women, Leah Remini, the Emmy-winning actress, took to social media to express her thoughts. She referred to Masterson as a ‘dangerous r@pist’ and accused the Church of Scientology of being complicit in covering up his crimes.
Remini, who left the church in 2013, was present at the hearing with two of Masterson’s victims. She stated that the church had enabled Masterson to avoid accountability for his actions and that the sentencing was an indictment against the church and its leadership.
She expressed her admiration for the survivors who bravely read their victim impact statements in court, despite facing harassment and intimidation from Scientology. Remini also highlighted the church’s stance on reporting members to law enforcement, emphasizing the consequences faced by those who speak out against fellow Scientologists.
Remini concluded by thanking law enforcement and the court for their fair handling of the case. This statement comes after she filed a lawsuit against the church and its leader for harassment, surveillance, and defamation.
Judge Olmedo, who delivered the sentencing, emphasized that Masterson’s actions were criminal and that he was not the victim in this case.
