Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed deep sorrow at the passing of his Ondo State counterpart, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, stating that his demise is a significant loss to Ondo State and the entire nation.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Akeredolu’s impactful legacy in Ondo State, the South-West region, and Nigeria as a whole, emphasizing that his absence will be keenly felt.
Offering his condolences, Governor Sanwo-Olu also extended his sympathies to the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s widow, Dr. Betty Akeredolu, and the entire family and friends of the late governor.
The Lagos Governor also shared his heartfelt sympathy with the people of Ondo State, particularly the residents of Owo, mourning the loss of their distinguished fellow citizen. He prayed for divine strength to endure this immeasurable loss.
Reflecting on Akeredolu’s life, Sanwo-Olu described the late governor’s demise as a profound loss for the country, underscoring his significant contributions to the progress and advancement of Ondo State and Nigeria, particularly in the realms of law and governance.
Expressing his condolences, Sanwo-Olu said, “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the death of the Ondo State Governor.
“I also commiserate with all my brother governors over the death of one of us. I sympathise with the entire people of Ondo State, particularly Owo sons and daughters at home and abroad.
“The death of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is a colossal loss to the country, particularly the people of Ondo State. He made lots of impactful contributions during his lifetime to the growth and development of Nigeria, first as a lawyer and later as a two-term governor.
“Arakunrin Akeredolu was a courageous leader. He served the people of Ondo State passionately during his tenure as Governor of the State.
“I pray that God will grant Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu eternal rest and give his immediate family, friends, associates, and the people of Ondo State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
