Kevin Kline is an American actor and singer who began his career in the early 1970s. Almost five decades later, the actor has appeared in numerous films, theater performances and television shows, presenting numerous awards for all his efforts. The actor was born Kevin Delaney Kline on October 24, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri. Of German and Irish descent, Kline was raised by his father, Robert Joseph Kline, an amateur opera singer, record operator – The Record Bar – and by his mother, whom he described as very dramatic.
With two younger brothers and an older sister, he grew up in the Catholic faith and attended Saint-Louis Priory School in 1965. He began acting as soon as he entered school and performed in many plays of theater. Nevertheless, he was more interested in music at the time. Because of this, he decided to study composition and conducting at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Two years after graduating from college, actingBecame stronger than music, he turned to acting and spoken word, which he pursued until graduating in 1970. Before receiving his degree, he co -founded an off-campus theater group, Vest Pocket Players.
From there he moved to the Juilliard School in New York where he attended the newly formed drama division. There he became a member of the City Acting Company (The City Act), which moved between Shakespeare’s plays.
After leaving the company, he got his first role in the 1986 soap opera, In Search of Tomorrow and then The Time of Your Life in the same year. Born in 1963, Phoebe Cates began her career as a model, but when she called it quits, she decided to try acting in the early 1980s. Before that, she was dating film producer Stavros Merjos with whom she even shared an apartment.
In 1983, the former actress attended an audition for a role in Le grand frisson, but she didn’t get the part. What she did have, however, was an opportunity to meet the man who would become her husband, Kevin Kline. Immediately, they both fell in love with each other and after spending a lot of time together, they decided to become husband and wife in 1989.
Their union was blessed with two children, Owen Joseph Kline, born in 1991, and Greta Simone Kline, born in 1994. Owen and Greta are now actors. The family lives in New York, where Phoebe Cates Kline owns and operates a boutique, Blue Tree, on Madison Avenue.
