Karyn, the eldest of five siblings, began singing in a church choir as a child and later as a backing vocalist. In 1986, she featured on Jeff Lorber’s singles “Facts of Love,” “Back in Love,” and “True Confessions.” She eventually signed with Warner Bros Records and released her debut self-titled album in 1988, containing hit singles such as “The Way You Love Me,” “Superwoman,” “Secret Rendezvous,” and “Love Saw It,” which achieved platinum status. At the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, she was nominated in the Best R&B/Urban Contemporary New Artist category and also received two Grammy Award nominations. White made history by being the first female artist whose first three solo releases secured the number one spot on the R&B charts. In 1991, her second album, “Ritual of Love,” was released, featuring songs produced by Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, including the hit single “Romantic,” reaching number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Several other singles from this album achieved notable success, including “The Way I Feel About You,” “Do Unto Me,” and “Walkin’ the Dog.” Three years later, her third album, “Make Him Do Right,” was released, although not experiencing the same level of commercial success as its predecessor. Nevertheless, White managed to chart with singles such as “Hungah” and “Can I Stay With You,” the latter of which was written by Babyface and became her final single to reach the U.S. R&B Top 10 chart.

At the close of the 1990s, Karyn decided to step away from Warner Bros. Records and public life to start a family. However, she later embarked on recording a new album titled “Sista, Sista,” which ultimately remained unreleased. However, two tracks – “Disconnected” and “All I Do” – were featured on the “best of” compilation album, “Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White,” released in 2007.

After a hiatus of seventeen years, White finally unveiled her new album, “Carpe Diem,” in March 2012.

Presently residing in Rocklin, California, Karyn has transitioned to operating a thriving interior design and real estate business.

Regarding her personal life, Karyn was married to Terry Lewis from 1991 to 1999, and they share a daughter and have adopted a son. White subsequently married producer Bobby G from 2007 to 2009.
